Mothershead Master Bath
This Master Bathroom underwent a true transformation. Gene and Lisa made the decision to completely gut their old bath down to the framing and start from scratch. Gene and a neighbor demolished the old bath, made modifications to the tub deck for the new garden tub, and built a knee-wall to separate the commode from the double sink vanity. We used both Schluter Ditra (floors) and Schluter Kerdi (walls, ceiling) in the preparation for installation. Glazed porcelain in two sizes was selected for the project, a 12"x12" and 6"x6". We also cut down pieces to 3"x3"and 3"x6" to create an accent strip on the walls that mimicked the hopscotch pattern installed on the floor. We installed the ceiling to mirror the shower pan using the 6"x6" installed on a diagonal. Two niches were installed, One, beneath the bench seat to provide out-of-sight storage. The other installed in the diverter wall for easy access to shampoo. In addition, a corner shelf was fabricated out of the tile so that soap could be stored away from the multiple showerheads.
Access to the tubs pump and plumbing was maintained with the fabrication of a tile panel. With extra strength hook-and-loop strips mounted to the framing and the back of the panel, we caulked the edges with a color matching caulk creating an easy to remove, but sturdy access panel.
