Vivian and Rob Coulier purchased their dream home in Providence Plantation subdivision in South Charlotte, NC.  The 5480 square foot home has 3 floors, pool, tennis court...and a lot of work to make it livable again.  One of the most challenging projects for us, to date, we managed to install nearly 2300 square feet of 24"x24" honed travertine throughout 10 rooms on the first floor of this palatial home.  Compound the challenge by adding a running bond (brick) pattern to the mix and we had our hands extremely full.  For three weeks we installed tile in a medium bed mortar, until all tiles were in, grouted and sealed.  What's most important is that Vivian and Rob were as pleased, if not more, as we were.

 

Red Guard is a liquid waterproofer that, when applied thick enough, has anti-fracture properties as well.  Once it is 27 millimeters thick (about the thickness of a credit card) it is ready to accept tile.  A word of caution though, allow the Red Guard to dry completely between coats.  Rushing to apply coat after coat will only slow the process and diminish the effectiveness of the product.  As with any product, read the label on the package for clear directions to reduce the likelihood of failure.
